Project managers meet to reinforce the OCS vision

Nairobi, Kenya: A two-day meeting among OCS project managers was held on 29 to 30 January 2013 at the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) in Kenya. IRRI joined nine CGIAR partners, and Unit 4, in sharing lessons learned and progress made in the OCS project.

The participants at the Project Managers' meeting were CGIAR participants:  (1) Eric Clutario (IRRI); (2) Marco van den Berg (IRRI);  (3) Rob Cherry (IRRI), (4) Percy Cabello (CIP); (5) David Poras (WorldFish); (6) Hashem Abed (ICARDA); (7) Moussa Davou (AfricaRice); (8) Linus Kabutha (ICRAF); (9) Ian Moore (ILRI-ICRAF); (10) Binyam Meheretab (ILRI); (11) Dario Valori (Bioversity); (12) Mario Andrés Velásquez Giraldo (CIAT); (13) Jurado Espinel, (14) Diana Marcela (CIAT); (15) Gerry O'Donoghue (Consortium Office), (16) Michael Marus(Consortium Office); (17) Tania Jordan (Consortium Office); (18) Virginia Maria, Salazar (CGIAR-IAU); (19) Carlos Alonso (Chair),                   (20) David Swain (Project Manager),  and Unit 4 consultants: (21) Richard Bastow, (22) Phil Bostock, (23) Andrew Mulvany

The meeting aimed to (1) reinforce the vision of the OCS—a shared service among CGIAR centers; (2) enhance understanding by project managers; (3) discuss rollout plans; (4) improve communications within the project; (5) promote sharing among participant centers; and (6) promote improved implementation of OCS.

Marco van den Berg, IRRI Chief Information Officer, gave an update on the OCS Support Unit (OSU), which aims to assist all participating centers on a global scale. One of the outputs of the meeting is a plan for the development of the OSU’s policies and procedures.

Other OCS activities
Dhaka, Bangladesh, and Delhi, India: Norman Macdonald, IRRI deputy director general for management services, is currently conducting OCS briefings in two of IRRI’s largest country offices, in Dhaka and Delhi.

Los Baños, Philippines: At headquarters, OCS builders and process experts continue to work on the final stages of the completion of the Build and Live, according to OCS requirements.
